The Pilgrims' Journey

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. In 1620, a group of English settlers known as Pilgrims arrived on the coast of what is now Massachusetts. They left England because they were searching for religious freedom and a better life. The First Thanksgiving

In the fall of 1621, the Pilgrims were joined by Native American tribes who taught the settlers how to cultivate crops in the new environment. After the harvest, the Pilgrims held a three-day feast to celebrate their successful crops and give thanks for the help they received from their Native American neighbors. This feast is known as the first Thanksgiving. The celebration included turkey, corn, and pumpkin—all foods that are still associated with Thanksgiving today.

Modern-Day Celebrations

Thanksgiving has come a long way since the early days of the Pilgrims. Today, the holiday is celebrated in many different ways. In the United States, Thanksgiving is a time for families to come together and share a meal. It is also a time to express gratitude for blessings, both big and small.
