George Washington: The Father of the Nation

George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the eldest of six children and was raised in a wealthy family on a tobacco plantation. He became an accomplished surveyor and was appointed the official surveyor for Culpeper County at the young age of 17.
