ALegacyofPeaceandReconciliation
Mandelawasreleasedfromprisonin1990andwentontonegotiateanendtoapartheidwiththen-presidentFrederikWillemdeKlerk.Hewaselectedpresidentin1994,servingoneterm.Duringhispresidency,heworkedtopromotereconciliationbetweenblackandwhiteSouthAfricans,institutingpoliciestoaddresstheinjusticesofapartheidandstrengthendemocracy.HealsofoundedtheNelsonMandelaFoundation,whichseekstocontinuehislegacyofsocialjusticeandpeace.
MandelapassedawayonDecember5th,2013,buthislegacyliveson.Heisrememberedasasymbolofhopeandinspirationforpeopleallovertheworld,andhisdedicationtotheprinciplesofjustice,equality,andpeacecontinuetoinspireandmotivategenerationstocome.
